I became a sister of Sigma Lambda Gamma to get closer to my culture and experience it as I had not grown up around people who looked like me. I want to be able to share what I have learned as a sister of SLG and as a woman of color with others. By joining, I have met such a strong community of women, and other members of multicultural fraternity and sorority organizations. I would not be the person I am today without the love and support of this community.

I became a sister of SLG because I wanted a sense of community at DePaul. Being a student of color at a PWI can sometimes feel isolating and lonely, so I was motivated to get more involved on campus. When I discovered the Gammas in the Student Center one day and talked to the women who would soon become my NMEs, I felt at home. The organization’s principles and mission, aligned with my own values and stood out from other organizations on campus. My sisters always motivate me and support my ideas. SLG truly gave me sisters for life and I’m forever grateful.

Besides being related to two of my chapter founder and surrounding myself with empowered women, SLG’s principles are what stood out the most to me.The sisters not only empowered themselves but other women outside of their organization. They helped me realize that it is important to be culturally aware and to take pride of your roots. Culture is Pride, Pride is Success!

I joined SLG for their principles and what they stand for, academics, community service, culture awareness, etc. All principles I myself grew up with and would want to use more in my daily life, it is easy to forget them when life gets chaotic. I hoped to gain sisterhood, as the only girl in my family I never really knew what it was like to have sisters. I have had many great experiences thus far; I enjoyed national convention because I got to meet sisters from all over the US. 5 years from now I would have hopefully graduated from law school and working as an immigration attorney. I believe SLG will help open those doors with not only connections, but support as well.

I joined Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority, Incorporated to gain role models and unbreakable relationships. Being a first generation student, I needed to connect with women that shared my experience and background. I attended the involvement fair to see where I would find these women.  I came across the DePaul Gammas and I just knew that their personalities and principles were something I wanted to embody.

I joined Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority, Inc. because I wanted to find a home for myself at DePaul. Once I met the DePaul Gammas during my first year, it was an instinct click and I felt like I could connect and grow with this group of women. I truly felt that being a part of this organization would not only teach me about self-empowerment, but would allow me to take part in empowering others. Although I grew up with an older and younger sister, it feels amazing to be surrounded by so many other sisters that are supportive and push me to be the best version of myself everyday!

I joined SLG because I wanted to be apart of something bigger than me. I was raised by a single mother who always taught me how to be a strong and independent, so women empowerment meant a lot to me. Growing up I had trouble being comfortable in my own skin but when I met the sisters of SLG, they motivated me and gave me confidence without me even being apart of their organization or just knowing me in general. I knew I felt at home. SLG has pushed me to be the woman I am today and has provided me with a second family who I know I can count on for life.

I became a sister of Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority, Inc. because I yearned for a place that accepted my eccentricities. Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority, Inc. fostered within me a sense of identity and more importantly allowed me to tap in to the rich history and culture of women of color in higher learning institutions. In doing so, I have been able to discover my purpose--that of empowering fellow POC--and live by this purpose in my daily activities. Being a Gamma is a work in progress, it is working tirelessly until the work is over.

Being a sister has allowed me to appreciate the genuine relationships that are the fruit of all of the sisters that came before me. I have gained a sense of confidence in my abilities, the courage to take risks, and making a learning experience out of every occurence.
