Chapter History

During the fall trimester of the 1996/97 school year at DePaul University, a group of over 30 women gathered to learn about an organization named Sigma Lambda Gamma. These women felt the need for an organization that would better serve the needs and wants of Latina women at DePaul University.

In February of 1997, Sigma Lambda Gamma at DePaul University received colony status. From the original group of over 30, 18 women remained to become the DePaul chapter Founders. These women were inducted into Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority, Inc. in March of 1997.

On June 5, 1997, these 18 women crossed to mark the closure of their process. On September 13, 1997, the DePaul colony received chapter status, and became the Gamma Alpha Chapter of Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority, Inc.
